Research Focus
Dr. Ameli's research lies at the intersection of power system protection and cyber-security, with a particular focus on developing advanced and cyber-resilient protection mechanisms for renewable-rich power grids. His work addresses emerging challenges in wide-area monitoring, control, and protection through data-driven methods, AI-based analytics, and cyber-physical system modeling.
Academic Profile
Dr. Ameli is an Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Lakehead University and a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo in 2019, where he also completed a postdoctoral fellowship. He holds M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees from Sharif University of Technology and Iran University of Science and Technology, respectively. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE.
Research Mission
His research program aims to bridge academic innovation and real-world impact by enhancing the security, adaptability, and intelligence of modern electric power systems. Over the past five years, he has secured more than $1.5 million in research funding as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator, supported by NSERC and Public Safety Canada and through collaborations with industry partners.
